Promises Promises – The Rainbow

When Ralph and I were in Hawaii, we booked a helicopter ride with a company that had just been issued a new glass-bottom helicopter. We began our adventure on Kawaii and flew over to the island of Molokai.

We were flying approximately 200 feet above the water, so the pilot stated, however, it looked more like a mere ten feet to me. It seemed as if I could almost count the fish in the ocean. Since I’m afraid of water, I latched onto Ralph’s leg with a death grip. Just imagine flying in a massive clear glass bubble; anyway, that’s what it seemed like to me.

As we traveled toward Molokai, I spotted a beautiful rainbow. The colors seemed to fade into pastel tents the closer we got, although the individual bands of color became wider. It felt as though I could reach out and touch all the colors. By the time we reached the island, we ultimately flew right smack through the middle of that amazing rainbow! It was so breathtaking; I wanted to see it again, so when I turned around to look, it was gone!

By then, we could see tiny raindrops glistening on the glass bottom of the helicopter. Before long, it began to rain heavily, and as the wind blew, we were tossed around, which was somewhat alarming. However, witnessing a rainbow up that close was comforting in itself. Then, I was suddenly reminded of God’s promise in Genesis, and I was not afraid. The rainbow is a beautiful sign from God that He promises to never destroy the earth with a global flood again. And my friend, God always keeps His promises!

The Bible is full of God’s promises upon promises. And one of my favorite verses is found in Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” (NKJV)

  1. Wow! What a beautiful gift you received from God. This Christian journey is so amazing that it will take an eternity to tell it all. I have had an emotionally difficult day today but the rainbow reminder gives me more determination to keep on trusting and sharing the goodness of God.
