We may all be guilty!
God gives us ideas and directions for ministering to others, but we sometimes second-guess Him and ponder and ponder over those ideas until we sometimes ponder ourselves out of following through.
I’ve recently finished reading several books by the author Kobi Yamada. The essence of the three books in this boxed set is summarized in the thought “What You Do Matters.” The books are written for 6-9-year-olds but are also advertised as effective reads for all age groups. One of the books “What Do You Do With An Idea?” speaks in the most simplistic form to encourage readers to be confident that “you can change the world” (Yamada) when you embrace and present your ideas.
We often fear the unknown and wonder if our idea has any value. Or we question whether others will accept it. I have learned that we can’t expect everyone to see or agree on how God is leading so we need to bathe those new anointings and ideas with prayer until we have confidence in God’s leading. Then step into the task with a renewed urgency and sense of duty to the needs of this generation.
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough,
and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:62 (KJV).
This is quite a thought-provoking verse from Scripture that we should commit to memory and use it to encourage ourselves and others of the seriousness of turning away from God’s leading.
We may still have times of pondering, but it’s important to immediately intersperse that with continued prayer and a child-like faith and assurance that God knows exactly what He is doing and what His purpose is for directing it through us.
What an exciting, yet humbling thought,
that God would choose us to carry out His ideas.
